Prof. Victor L Villemagne, MD
Tenured Professor and Co-Director of Molecular Biomarkers in Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh

Dr. Villemagne is a physician–scientist specializing in the development of molecular biomarkers for the discovery, diagnosis, prognosis, and clinical trials of neurodegenerative diseases.

He has characterized the natural history of amyloid accumulation in the human brain, demonstrating it is a long, progressive process spanning decades and providing a wide window for disease-specific therapeutic interventions. He has also pioneered selective tau imaging and is now expanding his work to the assessment of reactive astrogliosis. His research integrates amyloid and tau imaging to evaluate their combined impact on cognition and brain structure.

Dr. Villemagne has over 30 years of experience in PET molecular imaging in neurological and psychiatric conditions and has collaborated extensively through major international research programs and funded projects.

He is currently a Tenured Professor and Co-Director of Molecular Biomarkers in Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh (USA), as well as an Adjunct Professor at Edith Cowan University (Australia) and Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne.
