Lluís Tárraga, MSc
Co-founder of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona

Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Barcelona. Diploma in Psychotherapy by Humanist Institute for the Development of Human Potential in London.

He founded in 1991, along with Mercè Boada, the first therapeutic day center for people with dementia in Spain, “Alzheimer Centre Educacional”, where he began working with the Comprehensive Psychostimulation Program (PPI) (Boada & Tárraga, 1994) in order to offer a new therapeutic strategy to re-educate, socialize and promote independence and quality of life of these patients with Alzheimer’s and their families.

Since 1995 until 2021, he was the director of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, creating a global expertise in diagnosis of patients with cognitive and behavioral disorders.

In 2006 he created the Alzheimer Day Hospital “Alzheimer Centre Educacional”, especially oriented to neurodegenerative diseases in people under 65.

He was a member of the Advisory Board in Psychogeriatrics Catalan Health Service and coordinator of the Cognitive Stimulation.

He has participated as principal investigator or co-investigator in several research projects at Ace and funded by national and international public institutions for the development of the research, focused on the study of clinical and neuropsychological phenotypes of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTLD); gene expression studies in AD, FTLD and MCI; biomarkers and neuroimaging in prodromal AD as well as independent research and development of new treatments in AD.

He has written several popular books on therapy cognitive stimulation and its working methods, and has worked on multiple editorial co-authored publications.
