Juan Domingo Gispert, PhD
Head of the Neuroimaging Research Group of Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC)

As the Group Leader of Neuroimaging at Barcelonabeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), he has over 20 years of experience applying neuroimaging techniques to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research and prevention. With a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, he has deep technical and clinical expertise in MRI and PET acquisition, analysis, and management for AD and other neurodegenerative diseases.

He aims to identify and characterize pathophysiological changes in preclinical AD stages to inform preventive interventions and drug development. He has developed and validated quantitative amyloid and tau PET metrics, novel MRI pulse sequences, and investigated glial activation associated with AD hallmarks. This activity has resulted in more than 180 scientific peer-reviewed articles (>85% Q1) that have been cited more than 7000 times and in the creation of one spin-off company. Through his research, he has established a strong network of international collaborators in academia and industry and a track record of clinical trial design, image harmonization, and regulatory interactions.
