
Bengt Winblad is Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet (Solna, Sweden), within the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Division of Neurogeriatrics. He is a leading figure in international research on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease.
Throughout his career, he has held key roles such as Chair of the European Alzheimer Disease Consortium (2001–2019) and member of the Senate of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases. He also served as a member of the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet from 1988 to 2010, contributing to the selection of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Prof. Winblad has also been instrumental in advancing global scientific collaboration, founding major international conferences such as the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference. His outstanding contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, most recently the Joan Boada & Mercè Rovira Award in 2024.
