Alfred Njamnshi MD, MA, DMS, FMH
Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience, FMBS, University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon

Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Yaoundé I (Cameroon), this distinguished specialist plays a key role in clinical, scientific, and educational leadership in his country. He is Head of the Neuroscience Laboratory and Chair of the Neurology and Neuroscience residency programs at the same institution, as well as Chief of Neurology at Yaoundé Central Hospital, one of the country’s main teaching hospitals.

His academic and scientific excellence has been internationally recognized through his election as a Fellow of the Cameroon Academy of Sciences, the African Academy of Sciences, and the Royal College of Physicians (UK). He also serves as President of the Society of Cameroonian Neurologists, actively contributing to the advancement of neurology in the region.

He is the Founder and Director General of the Brain Research Africa Initiative (BRAIN), a platform dedicated to advancing neuroscience research in Africa. His main research interests include translational neuroscience, neurodegenerative diseases—particularly dementia—and epilepsy. He serves as Multiple Principal Investigator (MPI) of the BUILD-FSA project and as Principal Investigator (Cameroon) for the Dawn (READD-ADSP) study.

He has authored more than 230 peer-reviewed scientific publications, reflecting a highly prolific research career. Among his most significant contributions are his work on onchocerciasis-associated epilepsy, population genetics in indigenous African populations, infectious neurodegeneration, and the development of the “Actigraphic Sleep Score,” an innovative tool for sleep assessment.
