José Obeso, MD, PhD
Director of the Neuroscience Center at Fundación de Investigación HM Hospitales

Dr. Obeso leads a multi-disciplinary group with a high dedication to understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease, and, consequently, to developing new treatments against the neurodegenerative process that it produces.

He was a world pioneer in the development of the concept of ‘Continuous Dopaminergic Stimulation’ for Parkinson’s disease and participated in the revitalization of surgical treatments for this disease in the 1990s.

The main studies he has carried out have revolved around the pathophysiology and treatment of myoclonus and dystonia; to the origin and treatment of dyskinesias in Parkinson’s disease; to the pathophysiology of the basal ganglia; to experimental models of Parkinson’s disease and its surgical treatment.
