The Social Work department of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona has developed a comprehensive education and training programme for the families of people with Alzheimer’s diagnosed at Ace, with the aim of empowering carers, helping them to organise a care structure and accompanying them through their relative’s cognitive decline.
These training sessions have been running since 2019 and have been very well received by those who have already attended our workshops.
Due to the Covid-19 prevention measures in place at our centre, the training is currently being held online. However, it is expected that some groups will be offered in a hybrid format in the near future.
From September to December, the professionals from the Ace Social Work department will be delivering the following activities:
Caregiver Classroom: Activity Training
An effective approach to dementia also involves exercising at home. What activities can I suggest for my relative with Alzheimer’s? How can they feel useful at home? Which cognitive exercises are recommended?

Caregiver Classroom: Pors-Diagnosis Training
Aimed at family members of people who have just been diagnosed at the Ace Memory Unit. What are the symptoms and strategies for managing the situation at home? What can I expect after the diagnosis? How will the disease progress? What types of support can I request? What are the stages of dementia? And other questions are answered through this training.
Support groups for children (open to the general public)
Faced with an early-onset dementia diagnosis (people under 65), many doubts can arise, and coping with such news is difficult for the whole family, especially for the diagnosed person’s children. For this reason, the social workers at Ace organise this training to resolve doubts and support family members, with the aim of providing them with the necessary tools to approach the illness.

Open to any child of a person with dementia.
