The organization
The Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona is a nonprofit organization serving people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, their caregivers and their families. To do this, we carry out activities in the fields of diagnosis, pharmacological treatment, day care or non-pharmacological treatment, research, training and awareness-raising.
AREAS OF ACTIVITY
To improve the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families, we’ve been working since 1995 in the fields of diagnosis, treatment, day care, research, training and awareness-raising.
agreements and partnerships
UIC
In 2018, we signed an affiliation agreement with the International University of Catalonia (UIC-Barcelona) to carry out joint activities in the field of training and research on Alzheimer’s disease. This partnership agreement is aimed at coordinating teaching, clinical and research activities between the two organizations.
Pittsburgh University
For more than 20 years now, we’ve been working with the Pittsburgh University to prevent, detect and treat Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. One of the most visible projects of this landmark international partnership is the Barcelona-Pittsburgh Biennial Conference, which has been bringing together the most outstanding researchers in the field of these neurodegenerative diseases since 1998.
Ciberned
In 2012, we signed an agreement with the Biomedical Research Networking Center on Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIBERNED), which is under the auspices of the Carlos III Health Institute and the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The aim is to promote and carry out studies, activities and research related to neurodegenerative diseases.
Aside from promoting and collaborating in scientific research, this organization is committed to participating in the development of knowledge and its transfer to society. One of the priority goals of this alliance in order to fulfill this aim is to create elite international research groups on the mechanism of neurodegeneration.
CHARGE (Cohorts for Heart and Aging in Genomic Epidemiology)
The CHARGE consortium began its activities in 2008. Its aim is to facilitate meta-analysis and replication of genome-wide replication studies (GWAS) using the results from several landmark population-based cohort studies such as the Framingham Heart Study (FHS), the Rotterdam Study and the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS), among others.
IGAP
We are part of the International Genomics of Alzheimer’s Project (IGAP). Its main aim is to understand the role inheritance plays in developing Alzheimer’s disease.
DEGESCO
The Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona has promoted the creation of the Dementia Genetics Spanish Consortium (DEGESCO) together with 11 other groups belonging to the Biomedical Research Networking Center on Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIBERNED), which we are a member of.
International University of Catalonia
In 2018, we signed an affiliation agreement with the International University of Catalonia (UIC-Barcelona) to carry out joint activities in the field of training and research on Alzheimer’s disease. This partnership agreement is aimed at coordinating teaching, clinical and research activities between the two organizations.
Global Alzheimer’s Association Interactive Network
GAAIN is a big-data community for cohort discovery and data exploration that promotes data sharing among a federated, global network of data partners who are studying Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
BANG
The BANG group is a research project for the study of neuroimaging and other biomarkers of neurogenerative diseases, primarily Alzheimer’s disease. It’s a national and international reference group for the promotion, dissemination and research on new therapies and methodologies related to degenerative neuronal diseases.
