Artificial intelligence is already transforming the way we understand and diagnose neurodegenerative diseases.
One of the projects leading this transformation is Tartaglia,an initiative led by GMV that has recently been recognised as one of the 100 most impactful artificial intelligence projects worldwide.
This recognition not only places Spain among the international leaders in digital health but also highlights the work of institutions that are bringing technological innovation into clinical practice, such as Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona.
An international project to improve dementia diagnosis
Tartaglia is an artificial intelligence project designed to analyse large volumes of clinical data through a federated learning network.
This means that algorithms can learn from information generated by multiple institutions without the need to share patient data, ensuring privacy and data security.
Here, Dr Sergi Valero explains how the project works.
Its potential is based on three key pillars:
- Identifying patterns associated with the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
- Integrating clinical, genetic, cognitive and neuroimaging data.
- Developing tools that can be applied across different healthcare systems and clinical settings.
Ace’s role in artificial intelligence research

Why is artificial intelligence important in dementia research?
One of the main challenges in diseases such as Alzheimer’s is that brain changes begin years before the first symptoms appear.
