
Prof. Xavier Montalban is an internationally renowned neurologist and one of the world’s leading experts in multiple sclerosis and neurodegeneration. Over more than three decades, his work has played a pivotal role in defining the current diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis and in designing the first clinical trials focused on its progressive forms.
He currently serves as Medical Director of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona and Chair of Neurology, Neurophysiology and Neuropsychology at Quirónsalud. He is also Professor of Neurology at the Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya (UVic-UCC), President of the Cemcat Foundation, and Co-Chair of the European Charcot Foundation. He trained at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. From 2017 to 2020, he served as Director of the Department of Neurology at the University of Toronto.
His career has been recognised with some of the most prestigious honours in the field, including the 2023 MS Charcot Award, the highest international distinction in multiple sclerosis, and the 2022 John Dystel Prize.
