Prof. Milos Ikonomovic, MD
Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh

Dr. Ikonomovic received his M.D. from the University of Nis School of Medicine in Yugoslavia. From 1991 to 1994 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Fidia-Georgetown Institute for Neurosciences, studying glutamate and GABA receptor changes in aging and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
In 1996 he was appointed a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Allegheny Campus of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University. In 1999 he joined Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor, conducting studies of the cholinergic system changes in AD.
In 2008 he was promoted to Associate Professor and since 2020 he is a tenured Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry. He he is also a Research Biologist in the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. Dr. Ikonomovic has published over 150 peer reviewed manuscripts, reviews, and book chapters.
His research currently focuses on neuropathological substrates of PET imaging radiopharmaceuticals for AD, cholinergic dysfunction and synaptic changes in aging, mild cognitive impairment, and AD.
