PRETAD

The aim of the PreTAD project is to comprehensively analyze the implications of predictive medicine in Alzheimer’s disease, addressing the ethical, clinical, linguistic, and legal dimensions. The study seeks to understand people’s needs, their expectations, and their decision-making criteria regarding predictive testing, as well as the social and healthcare impacts of this paradigm shift.

Predictive medicine has made remarkable progress in recent years. Today it is more accurate and also more accessible. The PreTAD project addresses this transformation, highlighting a new paradigm in predictive medicine for Alzheimer’s disease: traditional diagnosis and treatment are now complemented —and in some cases replaced— by prediction and prevention. This predictive turn not only brings new medical tools. It also has implications for individual health, the healthcare system, and society as a whole. In the field of Alzheimer’s disease, advances are particularly relevant:

  • continuous improvement in risk estimation,

  • earlier prediction, even in healthy individuals,

  • less invasive blood tests that could replace current techniques such as PET or cerebrospinal fluid analysis.

The PreTAD project explores these issues comprehensively. At Ace Alzheimer Center we are part of this international research, contributing our clinical and scientific expertise to better understand people’s needs, their expectations, and the social impact of predictive medicine. The study focuses on three main groups:

  1. Individuals with early symptoms (subjective cognitive decline).
  2. Individuals with a family history of Alzheimer’s or APOE4 allele carriers.
  3. Healthy individuals.
