Positioning of HUB Alzheimer Barcelona for the definitive approval of Lecanemab and Donanemab in Europe
From the HUB Alzheimer Barcelona, where Ace collaborates as a reference entity, we have made public our position in support of the approval of Lecanemab and Donanemab in Europe. This open letter, addressed to the Spanish Medicines Agency and the Ministry of Health, highlights the urgent need to ensure equitable access to these pioneering treatments, which have been shown to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease in early stages.
European context and key demands
The recent approval of Lecanemab by the European Commission represents a paradigm shift in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. However, from the HUB we stress in this other open letter the need for the procedures for its implementation to be more agile. This is a crucial step to ensure that patients have access to treatment in a timely manner, especially those in early stages of the disease.
In both statements, the HUB emphasizes the importance of establishing clear and homogeneous criteria for its prescription throughout Europe, as well as providing health systems with the necessary resources for its safe and effective implementation. This positioning also has an impact on the preparation of medical professionals and specialized centers to integrate these advances into daily clinical practice.
