Alzheimer’s Night is returning to normal and will once again be held in person this year to celebrate its seventh edition. Organized by Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, an organization dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of Alzheimer’s disease, the event will take place for the second time in Barcelona on Tuesday, November 15, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

Ensuring care and support for all people with Alzheimer’s and their families and caregivers from anywhere in the region is one of the organization’s strategic objectives. With this goal in mind, the funds raised during the last two editions were allocated to the first phase of the Acehealth telemedicine project, which focused on providing the best possible service to the organization’s users. This year, Ace is taking it a step further and will dedicate the funds raised to the second phase, which will make high-quality diagnosis available to anyone, making it accessible from anywhere in the region.

“Although its implementation was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine allows us to transcend geographical boundaries, and its value for patients and their families is clear, regardless of the context. It makes care accessible to people with Alzheimer’s and makes daily life easier for family members and caregivers, avoiding trips that can complicate routines,” explains Dr. Mercè Boada, a neurologist and medical director at Ace.

Following the recent news about the results of the drug Lecanemab, which reduces cognitive decline by 27% in the early stages of the disease, Dr. Boada states that “this is great news, and we are at a turning point for the future of the disease, but we must also keep in mind that care for people living with Alzheimer’s today is a priority.”

For her part, Miren Jone Gurrutxaga, general director of Ace, emphasizes that “at Ace, we are thrilled to be able to return to normalcy with a charity event like Alzheimer’s Night, which has established itself as a meeting point between society and the scientific community and represents a unique opportunity to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s prevention, treatment, and research.”

After moving online due to the effects of COVID-19, the charity gala, hosted by journalists Josep Puigbó and Cristina Riba, returns this year as an in-person event, featuring an evening filled with humor and music, as well as charity raffles for items donated by partner companies.

The Alzheimer’s night, launched in 2016, is a charity initiative that highlights efforts in Alzheimer’s prevention, treatment, and research, while also aiming to raise public awareness about the need to invest in research to advance the fight against the disease and improve care for people with dementia.

How to support the initiative

Tickets to attend Alzheimer’s Night in person or to make a donation to Fila 0 can be purchased online. The event is supported by organizations from various sectors, including Telstar, Kern Pharma, Oliva Torras, Majoral, Natura Bissé, Fujifilm, and PeixaCasa.
