The 5th Alzheimer’s Night raises €34,000 for the care of people with Alzheimer’s

  • The organization will allocate the funds raised to the ACEhealth project to ensure care for people with Alzheimer’s during COVID-19.

  • The Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, the Regional Minister of Health, Alba Vergés, the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, the Director of CatSalut, Adrià Comella, and well-known figures such as Laura Rosel, Quim Masferrer, and Cristina Brondo were among those who participated in the event.

The fifth edition of Alzheimer’s Night, promoted by the ACE Foundation and held this year under the title “Against COVID, let’s keep our distance,” raised a total of €34,000, which will be used to implement the ACEhealth platform with the aim of ensuring care for people with Alzheimer’s in the context of COVID-19.

The event, which was held virtually for the first time, was attended by 250 people, who enjoyed an evening featuring chef Ada Parellada from the Semproniana restaurant, who prepared a recipe, a performance by bass Manuel Fuentes from Le nozze di Figaro, magic by Pepo Capel, and a theatrical performance by Muntsa Alcáñiz.

During the event, hosted by journalists Josep Puigbó and Cristina Riba, well-known faces such as Pep Antón Muñoz, Sílvia Abril, Cristina Brondo, and Núria Gago sent messages of optimism to people with Alzheimer’s and their families and caregivers. Mountaineer Edurne Pasaban and Quim Masferrer also explained how they have experienced Alzheimer’s in people very close to them.

Institutional representatives also addressed the attendees, including the Spanish Minister of Health, Consumer Affairs, and Social Welfare, Salvador Illa, who stated that “we are aware that there is still much work to be done and that we face the challenge of planning and implementing decisive actions capable of promoting progress in providing adequate, specific, and comprehensive responses for those affected.” “I am committed to continuing to promote this,” he added.

For their part, the Minister of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Alba Vergés, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, thanked and highlighted the work carried out by the ACE Foundation in the fight against Alzheimer’s and the care of people suffering from this dementia.

Voice actors such as Joan Pera and Jordi Boixaderas did not miss the opportunity to collaborate with La Noche del Alzheimer, lending their voices to a letter in which Fundación ACE users explained how they experienced the first wave of COVID-19.

The event ended with the screening of the Regala memoria 2020 (Give the gift of memory 2020) commercial, an awareness video that reflects on the scope of this disease and focuses on the 75 million people who will suffer from Alzheimer’s in 2030.

Dr. Mercè Boada, co-founder and medical director of the ACE Foundation, thanks everyone for their participation: “We are proud to organize Alzheimer’s Night for the fifth year running and, year after year, to have the participation of so many people who help us in the fight against Alzheimer’s and enable us to provide the best care for those who suffer from it. The solidarity and collaboration of society as a whole are essential to continuing our work to find a cure and, along the way, improve the quality of life of those who suffer from it.”

The event was supported by Kern Pharma, Alainsa, HP, Nutricia, Covalco, Natura Bissé, Peix a casa, Rosa Gres, Majoral, Carner, Fujifilm, Cole Haan, Fundación Mir-Puig, Matimañana, and Festival Castell de Peralada, among others.
