The annual charity event organised by Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona
Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona returns once again with the celebration of Nit de l’Alzheimer (Alzheimer’s Night), its annual charity event that aims to raise awareness and sensitise society about the importance of research into Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Now in its tenth year, the gala will be held in person on 2 October 2025 at the Hotel El Palace in Barcelona. Tickets are now on sale via the website and this year, the proceeds from donations will go towards Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona’s actions and initiatives focused on early detection.
In this tenth edition, the event is consolidating its position as a meeting point between society and the scientific community, reinforcing the idea that early detection of the disease benefits not only the person affected, but also their families and, in particular, the younger generations. The children and grandchildren of people with Alzheimer’s will, in many cases, be the carers of the future. Therefore, detecting the disease early is essential so that they can take on this role with preparation, resources and emotional balance.
More and more young people, while developing their working and family lives, have to think about how to support their elderly parents. Early detection allows them to organise support, plan care and preserve their mental health, while giving them time to adapt and ensure dignified care for their relatives.
‘Early detection and research are essential tools for caring for those who need it most and preparing future carers in our society. To achieve a less burdened society and to be able to act sooner, it is essential to invest in prevention, early diagnosis and research, ensuring well-being today, but also in the future for the next generations,’ says Dr Mercè Boada, neurologist and medical director of Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona.
Miren Jone Gurrutxaga, general director of Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona, says that ‘every donation strengthens research and family support programmes. Detecting the disease early alleviates the current burden and gives future carers the time, resources and peace of mind they need to take on their role with confidence and mental health.’
Since its first edition in 2015, Nit de l’Alzheimer has consolidated its fundraising year after year. In 2021, the amount raised was €23,000; in 2022, €27,000 was raised; in 2023, it reached almost €42,000; and last year, in 2024, it reached its highest point with €63,000.
This year’s gala will feature artists and celebrities such as Pep Bou, Mariona Escoda, Laura Andrés, Sílvia Bel, Rafel Faixedas and Carles Xuriguera.
Alzheimer’s, a global challenge
Alzheimer’s is a socio-health disease that impacts all areas of society and affects patients, their families and their immediate environment. It requires a comprehensive strategy that takes this cross-cutting reality into account.
It is currently the most common form of dementia, with more than 900,000 cases diagnosed in Spain, and is characterised by the progressive onset of symptoms such as memory loss and impairments in language and spatial and temporal orientation. Globally, it already affects 55 million people, a figure that could triple by 2050. Despite its significant impact and being the chronic disease with the highest social cost, it receives ten times less investment in research than other diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular disease.
Tickets to attend the Nit de l’Alzheimer in person, as well as contributions through Fila 0, are available on the Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona website and can be purchased here.
