Ace Alzheimer Centre’s response to the positive results of the Phase 3 clinical trial of the drug Valiltramiprosate

Alzheon, Inc. announced today at the ADPD conference in Vienna the results of the Phase 3 APOLLOE4 clinical trial for patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) at the stages of mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia who carry the APOE4/4 genotype, which evaluates the oral drug Valiltramiprosate (ALZ-801) in patients with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease who carry the APOE4/4 gene. This breakthrough offers new hope for a group of patients who have no disease-modifying treatment options, such as Lecanemab. Specifically, the oral treatment Valiltramiprosate has demonstrated its ability to slow the progression of the disease in patients carrying the APOE4/4 gene, a group that has an 8-12 times higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s and whose clinical progression is faster than in those without this genotype. The results obtained represent a significant step towards the development of specific therapies for this group of patients, who account for between 10% and 15% of all Alzheimer’s cases. Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona has been one of the main recruiters of patients in Spain for this trial, with a total of eight patients enrolled. This participation reaffirms the centre’s commitment to cutting-edge research into dementia diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Statement by Dr Xavier Morató, Deputy Director of Clinical Trials at Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona: “The results obtained with Valiltramiprosate offer a promising therapeutic option for Alzheimer’s patients who carry the APOE4/4 gene. This treatment could be the first disease-modifying drug specifically targeted at this population, opening up new opportunities for those who do not benefit from other treatments, such as Lecanemab. These advances are a clear sign that we are continuing to make progress in Alzheimer’s research and treatment, providing solutions that could transform the lives of many patients.” For further information: Isabel Rodríguez 93 444 73 18  irodriguez@fundacioace.org Marta Martín 637 75 50 06 marta.martin.ext@weareboth.com
