The Francisco Javier Balmis 2025 Award, granted by the Rotary Club Alicante, recognizes progress in research and care for people with Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Mercè Boada is awarded the prestigious Francisco Javier Balmis 2025 Award

Dr. Mercè Boada, medical director and co-founder of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, has been distinguished with the Francisco Javier Balmis 2025 Award. This award, given by the Rotary Club Alicante, recognizes her exemplary career in research and care for people with Alzheimer's disease, as well as her contribution to the development of the Alzheimer's vaccine in phase 3 testing.

The Francisco Javier Balmis Award is given annually to outstanding personalities in the field of health and science who, through their work, make a significant contribution to improving people's quality of life. This award honors the figure of Dr. Balmis, the Spanish physician who led the philanthropic smallpox vaccine expedition in the 19th century, and symbolizes the values of innovation, dedication and solidarity in medicine.

In this 16th edition, Dr. Boada has been recognized for her leadership in the field of neuroscience and her tireless work in the search for solutions for people affected by Alzheimer's disease and their families, through a comprehensive approach that combines research, clinical care and social awareness.

“Receiving this award is a great honor that I share with the scientific community, whose collective work has been key to advancing the understanding and comprehensive care of neurodegenerative diseases,” says Dr. Boada.

The award, which highlights the importance of accessible and preventive medicine, will be presented at the Balmis gala, to be held on April 11, 2025 at the Torre de Reixes restaurant in Alicante.
