Dr. Boada’s opinion article in the Diari ARA

My connection with Alzheimer’s began many years ago in two different places. The first of them is the Barceloneta neighborhood. There I started as a doctor in what was then the Hogar del Pensionista. I got to know every corner of that place. In fact, when I joined they wanted me to dedicate myself to tasks such as checking the blood pressure of dozens of people who passed by there. I refused: if everyone had their own GP, what was the point of me checking their blood pressure? So what was I doing there?

The answer is easy, checking what the other doctors weren’t checking. So we started organizing cooking workshops, health education, healthy habits… And there I saw that some of those people’s memories weren’t up to par.

Now let’s jump to the United States. Alzheimer’s is no stranger to me, but there I understand what it means to make society aware of a disease, the importance of people understanding and comprehending one of the elements that surrounds them. If they understand it, they will know how to face it. If not, they will simply run away from it.
