COMFORTage General Assembly in Barcelona: Towards Personalised and Digitalised Dementia Care

On May 6, the first day of the General Assembly of COMFORTage, jointly organised by FTSS and Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona, took place at the Hotel H10 Cubik Barcelona. During this session, international partners met to review the progress of the project, to analyse and align all initiatives to move towards a personalised strategy for people with dementia jointly.

European context and the real need for COMFORTage

The accelerated ageing of the European population poses a major social and economic challenge. Recent studies highlight the increasing prevalence of dementia in the European Union and show that pathology begins years before the onset of visible clinical symptoms.

In Ace, we have shown that early diagnosis is essential to optimise treatment; however, there remains a significant gap in the integration of knowledge and fragmentation of health data, which hinders the analysis and personalisation of interventions. Currently, the healthcare system tends to apply generalised strategies that do not consider individual differences in genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors.

COMFORTage's innovative strategy

COMFORTage proposes a comprehensive solution based on the integration of a virtual healthcare platform with Artificial Intelligence (VHP), which centralises resources to analyse risk factors, support diagnosis and personalise decision making with a holistic approach. This platform combines individual data with scientific evidence to generate innovative solutions tailored to each patient. It also seeks to prevent dementia in young groups, reducing future risks, and to create a digital network for professionals and experts that incorporates medical devices and advanced analytics. The personalisation of plans is based on enhancing health and promoting an active lifestyle. Finally, COMFORTage drives social innovation to foster disruptive insights and co-create new or better solutions in dementia care.

This approach represents a significant advance in addressing the challenges posed by dementia in Europe, aligning with public health priorities and the need for personalised and collaborative strategies.
