Dr. Yahveth Cantero Fortiz, MD, MSc, MHA, is Director of the Therapeutic Apheresis Unit at Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, with experience in institutional management and technical support.
He earned his medical degree from Universidad de las Américas Puebla (Mexico). He later completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he also trained as a researcher at Cochrane Iberoamérica. Subsequently, he specialized in Neurodegenerative Diseases and Dementia through a postgraduate programme at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and completed a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration at Universidad de las Américas Puebla, specializing in Hospital Management and Administration.
Dr. Cantero Fortiz’s research focuses primarily on neurodegenerative diseases, hematology, and research methodology. His work has resulted in more than 60 publications in high-impact scientific journals on topics including Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and multiple myeloma.
He is currently actively involved in the development of clinical guidelines with the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) and serves as an external advisor in clinical research for the Sant Pau Research Institute, Cochrane Iberoamérica, and Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, strengthening a career marked by international collaboration.
He is also the author of three book chapters, including contributions on acute myeloid leukemia and the feasibility of fully outpatient hematopoietic transplantation management in patients with multiple sclerosis.
Committed to teaching and academic development, Dr. Cantero Fortiz has been recognized for his academic excellence in medicine, receiving the prestigious AMFEM-Pfizer Award in 2020.
Between 2019 and 2020, he served as an Assistant Professor of Hematology at two universities in Mexico. During this period, he also supervised medical theses, contributing to the training of future healthcare professionals.
He is currently an Associate Professor at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), where he teaches From Cognitive Normality to Dementia in the Medicine degree programme and Neurophysiopathology in the Physiotherapy degree programme within the Department of Health Sciences.
In addition to his scientific and teaching activities, Dr. Cantero Fortiz regularly practices telemedicine in his home country, Mexico, allowing him to maintain clinical practice and further strengthen his medical expertise.
