Dr. Lluís Tárraga Mestre
Founding member, vice president. President of the Board and co-founder. Clinical psychologist specialized in dementia.

Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Barcelona. Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapy from the Institute for the Development of Human Potential in London.

In 1991, together with Mercè Boada, she founded the first therapeutic day center for people with dementia in our country, the Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, where she began to work with the Comprehensive Psychostimulation Program (PPI) (Boada & T’rraga, 1994) the objective of offering a new therapeutic strategy to reeducate, socialize and promote the independence and quality of life of these people with Alzheimer’s and their families.

Since 1995 he has been president of the board of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, creating an expert center in the global diagnosis of prisons with cognitive and behavioral disorders.

In 2006 he inaugurated the Day Hospital, especially oriented to neurodegenerative diseases in people under 65 years of age.

He has been a member of the Advisory Council on Psychogeriatrics of the Catalan Health Service and coordinator of the Cognitive Stimulation Group.

He has participated, as principal investigator or co-researcher, in different research projects funded by national and international public institutions for the development of the lines of research generated in Ace, focused on the study of clinical and neuropsychological phenotypes of Alzheimer’s Disease (EA) and frontotemporal dementias (FTLD); studies of genetic expression in the EA, FTLD and DCL; biomarkers and neuroimaging in the prodromal EA as well as independent research for the development of new treatments in the EA.

He has published 75 articles in indexed journals. He has written several popular books on cognitive stimulation therapy and its
working methodology and has collaborated in multiple editorial publications as co-author.

Together with Dr. Mercè Boada and with the collaboration of the University of Pittsburgh, she organizes and directs the Biennial Conference “Barcelona-Pittsburgh” that in 2016 celebrates its tenth edition (20 years).

He has directed the continuous training courses of “Update in dementias for Primary Care”.
