Dr Chris Butler is a Neurologist based in London. He has been an Advisor to ACE Alzheimer Centre since 2020. He is the Global Programme Director in Multiple Long-Term Conditions at The George Institute for Global Health and Clinical Reader in Global Brain Health in the Department of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London. He is also a practising neurologist in the Imperial Memory Service at Charing Cross Hospital in West London.

 

His research aims to improve the diagnosis, management and care of people living with cognitive impairment and multimorbidity, particularly those living in low- and middle-income countries, as well as disadvantaged communities in Europe. He is Principal Investigator of the NIHR-funded IMPACT Salud project, which is developing innovative approaches to dementia and its comorbidities for health systems in Latin America. In the UK, his research group employs cognitive testing, non-invasive brain stimulation and advanced neuroimaging to explore novel diagnostic and treatment strategies for cognitive disorders. 

 

Chris studied medicine at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and then at the University of Edinburgh. He conducted his PhD on the syndrome of transient epileptic amnesia under the supervision of Professor Adam Zeman. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Memory and Aging Center, University of California at San Francisco and then returned to the UK to work for ten years at the University of Oxford before moving to Imperial College London in 2019.
