Alzheimer’s Night raises €64,000 for early detection projects in its 10th edition
On Thursday, 2 October, Ace Alzheimer Centre celebrated the 10th edition of Alzheimer’s Night, a charity gala that this year raised €64,780 for research projects focused on early detection of the disease.
The evening took place at the Hotel El Palace in Barcelona and brought together personalities from the scientific, institutional and cultural worlds in an event that has established itself as a meeting point between society and the scientific community. The main objective of this charity gala was to raise awareness in society about the importance of early diagnosis and the fundamental role it plays in the quality of life of people with Alzheimer’s, their families and new generations of carers.
During the event, led by Josep Puigbó and Cristina Riba, Dr Mercè Boada, co-founder and medical director of Ace, emphasised the need for early diagnosis and medical facilities equipped to deliver effective new treatments. ‘Our current priority must be to focus our efforts on more research, greater access to treatments and more support for family members and carers,’ explained Dr Boada.
Miren Jone Gurrutxaga, general director of Ace, thanked all those in attendance and collaborators for their involvement, emphasising that collective contribution is key to advancing prevention and research. ‘Early diagnosis, research and the contribution of each and every one of us are the best way forward,’ said Miren Jone during the event.
The gala also featured performances by Laura Andrés, Mariona Escoda, Pep Bou, Rafel Faixedas and Carles Xuriguera, and the show IMPRO SIDE HISTORY by Balsa Borrell, Clara Solé and Andreu Roqueta. In addition, the video for the #GiftMemory2025 solidarity campaign was screened, which, under the message ‘Together we will ensure that nothing remains unfinished’, highlights the daily impact of Alzheimer’s and the importance of the family and social support network. We were also honoured to have the participation of authorities such as Narcís Pérez de Puig, Secretary General of the Department of Health, and Eugenia Gay, Deputy Mayor, who inaugurated this edition of La Nit.
In addition, Catalan actress Sílvia Bel read some beautiful words from patients at the Ace Day Care Unit in response to the question ‘What is life?’, offering a message of hope in the face of early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and how they live with this disease. We also had the proceeds from the #unabrazoporelalzheimer campaign, which this year achieved more than 2,500 hugs, translating into more than €5,000 for Ace research projects.
Once again, Alzheimer’s Night has established itself as a symbol of commitment and solidarity. The funds raised reinforce Ace’s work in the field of early detection and research, with the aim of improving the quality of life of people living with Alzheimer’s and their families.
Thank you to all our collaborators, friends, organisations and, ultimately, everyone who attended this unique and magical evening. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
