Ace Leads the Debate on Biomarkers and Genetics This Spring

Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona reinforces its position as a benchmark in dementia research and diagnosis with its participation in three key sector events between March and May 2026.

Progress in Alzheimer’s is no longer driven solely by the laboratory: today it is also built through dialogue with patients, at international scientific congresses, and in specialised clinical forums. In this context, the Ace team once again places itself at the forefront of precision neurology.

Zaragoza: Biomarkers and a New Care Model

On 19 March, Dr. Marta Marquié, neurologist and head of Ace’s Clinical Research and Medical Psychology programme, took part in a roundtable in Zaragoza organised by AFEDAZ (Association of Family Members of Alzheimer’s Patients of Zaragoza).

The event, held at the Fundación Ibercaja, addressed the latest advances in biomarkers and treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their impact on the care model. The session brought together healthcare professionals, patients, and families, focusing on a paradigm shift:

  • From a reactive approach: based solely on visible symptoms.
  • To a precision model: based on early diagnosis and specific biomarkers.

The collaboration between research centres such as Ace and patient associations strengthens trust in the digital health ecosystem and validates medical information through real experts.

Advanced Genetics: International Recognition at the DSAD-ADAD Congress

Ace consolidates its commitment to advanced genetics with the acceptance of a new scientific paper at the international DSAD-ADAD congress (Genetically Determined Alzheimer’s Disease).

Researcher Marta Rovira will present on 9 and 10 April at Hospital de Sant Pau (Barcelona) the scientific poster:

#134 “Establishing A Spanish Cohort Of Adults With Down Syndrome”

This project represents a strategic advance across three key research lines:

  • Genetic predisposition: understanding the link between Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s.
  • National cohorts: developing Spanish databases for international multicentre research.
  • Personalised medicine: tailoring treatments to the specific genetic needs of each patient group.

Differential Diagnosis: Presentation at the 30th Annual SCN Meeting

On 7 May, Ace will be present at the 30th Annual Meeting of the Catalan Society of Neurology (SCN) at the World Trade Center Barcelona.

Dr Amanda Cano, head of the Molecular Biology and Biomarkers Programme, will deliver the featured presentation:

“When It’s Not Alzheimer’s: Biomarkers in Other Dementias”

  • Location: Room A1 | Cognition and Behaviour Study Group.
  • Time: 11:55 am

The session will address a fundamental challenge: the use of fluid biomarkers to differentiate Alzheimer’s from other dementias. This approach is vital to avoid diagnostic errors and ensure that each patient receives the appropriate treatment from the earliest stages of the disease.

Ace: Research, Clinical Practice and Social Commitment

With these three interventions, Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona consolidates its impact across three essential dimensions:

  • Public outreach and social connection
  • International genetic research
  • Clinical and diagnostic innovation

This integrated model responds to a clear objective: to improve the approach to Alzheimer’s by bridging scientific evidence and its real-world application in people’s lives.
