Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona and Imperial College London Launch Strategic Research Alliance

Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona and Imperial College London have formalized a framework agreement for scientific collaboration to promote joint projects in the field of neurodegenerative disease research. This strategic alliance strengthens cooperation between two institutions with complementary capabilities and establishes a stable framework for developing new lines of research, sharing knowledge, and generating results with potential clinical and scientific impact.

The collaboration combines Ace’s clinical and care experience, its track record in dementia research, and the availability of large and well-characterized longitudinal cohorts with Imperial College London’s methodological excellence in advanced statistical modeling, artificial intelligence, longitudinal analysis, and digital health.

As a first outcome of this agreement, teams from both institutions will work on the development and validation of predictive prognostic models for patients treated at Ace’s Memory Unit. Using machine learning procedures applied to clinical, neuropsychological, biological, and neuroimaging data, these models will seek to anticipate the cognitive, functional, and behavioral evolution of patients, identify different progression trajectories, and improve risk stratification.

This initiative represents a significant step toward more predictive and personalized medicine. The ability to more accurately estimate the likely course of the disease can contribute to optimizing clinical follow-up, guiding decision-making, identifying patients who are candidates for specific interventions, and facilitating the design of studies and clinical trials.

With this agreement, Ace reinforces its commitment to responsible, international, translational research aimed at transforming methodological advances into useful tools for clinical practice and improving care for people with cognitive impairment and dementia.
