A record-breaking Night to improve the quality of life of people with Alzheimer's

The 8th edition of Alzheimer's Night, the annual charity event that combines culture, music, art and humour with the aim of raising funds for an Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona project, was held at the Mandarin Oriental hotel on September 21st.

Thanks to the contribution of sponsors, entities and individuals, this year we have reached the record figure of €41,790, which will be allocated to the Ace virtual reality project.

The evening, presented by Cristina Riba and Josep Puigbó, featured performances by artists such as Marina Rossell, Màgic Andreu, Lluis Soler, Pep Poblet and Josep Maria Pou, who did not want to miss Ace's night and joined by videoconference from Madrid, where he rehearses the play “The Father”, about Alzheimer's. All of them wanted to contribute selflessly to the success of The Night.

In addition, we were accompanied by Carme Ruscalleda, the chef with the most Michelin stars in the world, 7 in total; Toni Cruz, TV producer and former member of the group La Trinca; or Dani Feixas and Alain Hernández, director and actor of the short film “Paris 70”, a story about caregivers that is considered to be nominated for the 2024 Goya Awards.

Awaiting approval of Lecanemab

The eighth edition of Alzheimer's Night was attended by Manel Balcells, Minister of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, who promised to give the green light to Lecanemab, the new drug approved in the United States for the treatment of early Alzheimer's, once the EMA and the Spanish Medicines Agency decide that it is safe to administer it among the Spanish population.

In addition, the Minister praised the trajectory of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona and highlighted the importance of the entity in innovative projects focused on the treatment and research of Alzheimer's.

For her part, Marta Villanueva, Councilor for Health, Aging and Care, highlighted the importance of Ace to promote initiatives framed in the Alzheimer's Table with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with this dementia and that of their families and caregivers.

€41,790 for the virtual reality project

The proceeds from Alzheimer's Night 2023 will be allocated to the virtual reality project, which aims to improve functions affected by the course of the disease, such as speech, attention and even memory.

Through virtual reality, the user is immersed in another scenario, personalized according to his or her life path, and carries out the activities that the Ace professional proposes.

At Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona we appreciate the support of all our collaborators for helping us make Alzheimer's history one day.
