On this International Women’s Day, we would like to highlight the fundamental contribution of all women in our mission to advance the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease
8M: female leadership at Ace Alzheimer Center
This March 8, on International Women's Day, we want to highlight the fundamental contribution of all of you in our mission to advance the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and to improve the quality of life of those living with this disease.
1. A team led by women
Eighty-one percent of the Ace team are women, from research to direct patient and family care. In addition, we have the inspirational leadership of Dr. Mercè Boada, co-founder and medical director, and Miren Jone Gurrutxaga, CEO, who guide our work with a clear commitment and vision: to move towards a future where Alzheimer's is history.
2. Scientific innovation driven by women
55% of our research team is made up of women. Their work is key in clinical trials, genetics and studies that seek new innovative therapies and more effective diagnostics. Thanks to their work, we continue to lead scientific advances with a gender perspective, with studies such as sex differences in Alzheimer's disease, where women are more likely to have this disease, but 26% of them are less likely to be selected for clinical trials.
3. The prevalence of Alzheimer's disease in women
61% of the users of our Day Care Unit are women. Through services such as the Day Center, Day Hospital and memory workshops, we work to offer them comprehensive care that promotes their autonomy and well-being.
4. They are the ones who are most trained to learn to care for
73% of those participating in workshops, support groups and training activities are women, which leads us to reflect on the need to balance the burden of care in our society.
For all this, this 8M we recognize all the women who are part of Ace: researchers, caregivers, specialists, patients and family members. Their daily effort and commitment inspire us to continue working for a more equitable and diverse future with a better quality of life for all people.
